Red Wine Hot Chocolate Recipe

Red Wine Hot Chocolate

On a cold winter day, there’s nothing quite like changing into some comfy jammies and curling up with a hot cocoa by the fire — or maybe there is. What if we added wine to that hot chocolate? Yes! Let’s do that!

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know we love to add wine to all kinds of things. We’ve spiked brownies, cupcakes, fudge, and even ice cream! So, why not add a buzzy little twist to your hot chocolate?

Only Three Ingredients

You can whip up this easy recipe in just about five minutes. All you need is milk (whole or 2% milk will give you the creamiest results), chocolate chips, and — of course — wine! If you’re feeling extra fancy you can add some whipped cream and chocolate chips for garnish.

Quality Ingredients Matter

When your recipe calls for just three ingredients, you want to make sure they are quality ingredients. So go for good chocolate (we used Ghirardelli) and good wine (we used Fruition).

Fruition is not too dry or too sweet so it works well with the semi-sweet chocolate in this recipe. If you like a super-sweet drink, try it with Mountain Goat Red wine. Prefer something drier? Passion or Timeless might work for you.

Perfect for the Holidays

While this luscious hot chocolate spiked with wine is a great way to treat yourself after a long day, it’s also a great way to treat your friends. Try mixing up an extra large batch in a crock pot for your holiday parties.
