Blasting Day at the New Winery Site
You know it’s going to be a good day at work when you get to blow something up! Today, was blasting day for our new winery building.
Fire Away!
How funny was Linda’s reaction in that video!? Seeing the hillside blow up was a little scary, but also fun at the same time!
A Dynamite Experience
Over the past few days, this machine has drilled 240 holes in the ground (each 12-16 feet deep). Contractors filled the holes with dynamite that all detonated at the same time when we pressed the big button today.
Before the Blast
This is what the hillside along Walters Road in Hamilton looked like after the dynamite was all placed in the ground.
The construction area covers just about two-acres of our 90-acre farm. It’s important for us to disturb as little land as possible during this project. We’re putting the remaining land in an agricultural protection program so that it can never be developed.
Boom!
We are so thankful L&K Construction let us hold the detonator and push the button. It was an exhilarating experience. We thought the blast would shake the ground and make a racket but it didn’t. We didn’t feel the ground move at all and the blasting sound was much quieter than we expected.
Blasting Into the Future
The new winery will be open for you to enjoy next spring.
Randy is excited to have more room to make wine and Linda is pumped to have a bigger tasting room (four times as large as the current space)!
What are you most looking forward to? More space? Vineyard views from the wraparound porch? Hosting a special event? Something else? You can let us know in the comment section.
Cheers!
